Country information Croatia:

Deep blue sea, lovely sceneries, charming buildings and countless sunny hours, lure vacationists to Croatia for decades. The hospitable paradise of islands, with its almost 6000 km long Adriatic coast, is marked by a combination of natural treasures, culture and grown traditions.

The Republic of Slovakia is an independent, democratic European state. As a part of the former Yugoslav Republic, Croatia declared its independency on 25th of June 1991. The years 1993-1996 were clouded by turmoils between Croatia and the rest of Yugoslavia. In August 1996, there was an interactive acceptance of the two countries.

The war convulsed parts of Croatia, a lot of cities and buildings were destroyed. But for the last years, Croatia is a booming country, also in the tourist industry, reflected in an increase in service and quality. Today, Croatia is a safe and exceedingly popular destination, offering, in all its ten provinces, multifaceted and delightful sceneries and interesting cities and villages with numerous historic sites protected by UNESCO.

A good example is the seaport Dubrovnik, which is like a gorgeous museum with its churches, convents and patrician palaces. From there, in the most southern part of Croatia, the province Dalmatia, with more than 1200 islands, stretches across the whole coast. The choice of the most beautiful one will be difficult, because every single one has its special charm of the Carst region with dramatic coastlines, picturesque olive trees or the scent of lavender.
Visiting all islands, the seaport Split is an outstanding break. The second largest city of the country offers with the palace, built for the Latin emperor Diokletian, an unique sight. Besides, several museums document the 2000-year-old history of the country. The whole coast is considered as nature paradise, offering well-preserved and accessible natural parks, whereas the cities are turbulent holiday centers. The most important attractions in this context are the famous waterfalls of Krk, the mixture of founts, streams and forests around the Plitvice Lakes, which were the backdrop for many movie productions in the 60ies or the city Porec in the province Istria inspiring with the Byzantine Euphrasius basilica and the 70-kilometer long pine coast.

Zagreb
Zagreb dominates upcountry as cultural, academic and economic center and as traffic junction of the country. Located at the crossways of important transportation routes, between the Adriatic Sea and Central Europe, Zagreb developed to the middle for science, culture, trade and economy for centuries. Today Zagreb welcomes its guests with quaint historic sites, attractive shopping facilities, numerous greens and a broad cultural offer.
In the historic center, the “Upper and Lower Town” and the Kaptol form together a unique urbanistic ambience. The buildings around the Jelačić Square, in the heart of the Old Town, were built in the course of hundred years and represent a variety of styles – from Classicism, Secession to Modernism - and remind of the Austrian-Hungarian past of the city. The gorgeous Cathedral of Zagreb stores a big number of invaluable treasures. All visitors who have a lot of time should not miss to stroll over the Dolac market or to look at the hustle and bustle in the Tkalčić Street from one of the numerous cafes.

The Best Western Premier Hotel Astoria in Zagreb, Croatia was built in 1932 and offers, after a complete refurbishment, the ultimate comfort and service for the business and leisure traveler. Besides perfectly equipped rooms with exclusive bathrooms amenities, the guests are welcomed with a superb restaurant and a bar with special coffees.
